What is CSA?
CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) began in this country and in Japan in the 1970s as a way to connect consumers with local farmers that were using organic methods, and as a way of providing growers with the capital they needed to begin their season. Back then, organic wasn’t in every grocery, and no Whole Foods!
As we find ourselves looking at 2024, we see that this model is still relevant! With so many places to spend your food dollars, a local CSA still provides you with the best option for true fresh, local and organic. Eaters now more than ever want food that was raised safely, responsibly and reliably. Farmers still find themselves needing capital at the beginning of the season to buy supplies and begin the work. It’s a beautiful match. And we all desire a healthy LOCAL FOOD SYSTEM, in place and ready to function when we want it!
2024 FREE CHOICE CSA!
Our now proven Free Choice style CSA gives our customers more choice and convenience, offering a free choice, market style CSA and pre-order and quick pick up options. This provides greater convenience, flexibility and savings.

How does a Free Choice CSA Work? What is included?
Purchase a Free Choice CSA share in the increments below between now and May 1, 2024. For every dollar you spend, you will receive 10% extra to use on food, flowers and CBD products from our farm. You will have “Backbone Dollars” to spend at any of our pick up locations, on any of our available pick up days. Spend what you want, when you want, where you want. You will be issued a Free Choice Card on which we will keep track of your Backbone Dollars each time you shop. Your extra 10% will be added to your card when issued. At any time you may add extra Backbone dollars to your card in $50 increments.
NEW THIS YEAR- CSA members will receive 15% off all Farm Events and purchases from our Saturday Market Burger Stand in Oakland. This includes Farm to Table events and new this year, Cultural Events series. *subject to availability* You will not be permitted to use your Backbone Dollars for these events, but will get the discount as a CSA member at the time of purchase.
Our season begins mid-May, and runs through early November. Any Backbone Dollars left over on your card will not be transferable to the following year (barring any unusual circumstances). Please spend your dollars in 2024! Anyone is able to spend your dollars for you!
We also offer a pre-order service for pick ups at several locations. We implemented this system on an online platform called Food4All in response to COVID19 in 2020. We had great response to this service, so have decided to keep it going this year. You may use your Backbone Dollars for this service, subtract as you go.
All farm products in season will be available to you: produce, mushrooms, berries and rhubarb, pasture raised meats, CBD hemp products, and cut flowers.
